DVD 1:

Tig Welding Stainless Steel-Vertical:

The invention concerns a method for welding for example stainless steel, aluminium or alloys of these materials, whereby an electric arc is formed between the material to be welded and an electrode, which arc is shielded from the ambient air by means of an inert gas, whereas one of the far ends of a first welding rod is brought in this electric arc, or in its proximity, such that this welding rod gradually melts via said far end in order to form a welding seam. Such a method for welding stainless steel, aluminium or alloys of these materials is known as TIG welding ("Tungsten Inert Gas" welding).

According to the present state of the art, the welding rods used for TIG welding are not used up entirely. In particular, one far end of the welding rod must be manually held, in order to make its other far end melt in said electric arc. The length of the welding rod is hereby gradually shortened, such that the far end by which the rod is held gradually approaches the electric arc. At a given moment, due to the enormous heat generated by the electric arc, it will be impossible to further hold this far end manually. If the welding rod is manipulated by means of a tool, such as thermally insulated pliers, one has to take care that the tool does not end up in said electric arc in order to prevent it from melting, thereby creating impurities in the welding seam. Thus, there is always a remaining part of the rod which cannot be used up and which is regarded as waste.

The invention aims a method which makes it possible to entirely use up a welding rod when TIG welding for example stainless steel, aluminium or alloys of these materials.

Practically, before said welding rod has melted entirely, the far end of the welding rod which is not situated in the electric arc is connected to a far end of a second welding rod by means of a connecting element made of aluminium or stainless steel, whereby said first welding rod is then gradually melted further to said first far end while forming said welding seam, such that it is used up entirely.

According to a special embodiment of the method according to the invention, when said other far end of the first welding rod is situated in said electric arc, the connecting element is also brought at least partially in said arc, such that it gradually melts in order to form said welding seam

In an advantageous manner, said first and second rod are coaxially connected to one another.

Tig Welding Aluminium-Vertical:

Tips on Aluminium Welding…

Base-metal preparation: To weld aluminium, care must be taken to clean the base material and remove any aluminium oxide. Aluminium oxide on the surface of the material melts at 3,700 F where as the base-material aluminium underneath will melt at 1,200 F. Therefore, leaving any oxide on the surface of the base material will reduce penetration of the filler metal into the work piece.

To remove aluminium oxides, use a stainless-steel wire brush or solvents and etching solutions. When using a stainless-steel brush, brush only in one direction. Take care to not brush too roughly: rough brushing can further imbed the oxides in the work piece. Also, use the brush only on aluminium work; do not clean aluminium with a brush that’s been used on stainless or carbon steel. If using chemical etching solutions, make sure to remove the solution from the work before welding.

To minimize the risk of hydrocarbons from oils or cutting solvents entering the weld, remove them with a degreaser. Consult the degreaser instructions to insure it does not contain any hydrocarbons.

Introduction to MMA, Tig+Mig Close up+Pipe Welding:

Welding is the simplest and easiest way to join sections of pipe. The need for complicated joint designs and special threading equipment is eliminated. Welded pipe has reduced flow restrictions compared to me-chanical connections and the overall installation costs are less. The most popular method for welding pipe is the shielded metal-arc process; however, gas shielded arc methods have made big inroads as a result of new advances in welding technology.

Pipe welding has become recognized as a profession in itself. Even though many of the skills are comparable to other types of welding, pipe welders develop skills that are unique only to pipe welding. Because of the hazardous materials that most pipelines carry, pipe welders are required to pass specific tests before they can be certified.

Tig Welding-How to Weld High Quality Strong Welds:

Includes how to weld Butt joints succesfully using Tig Welding.

DVD 2:

Essential Mig Welding:

Everything you need to know regarding Mig Welding, lasts for over 50 minutes and is very thorough.

Welding Thin Sheet Metal:

Successfully Welding Sheet Metal With GMAW And GTAW

For fabricators and others with bottom line goals, welding sheet metal often means a constant battle between productivity and equipment investment vs. burn-through, warping, excessive heat affected zones (HAZ) and weld appearance. For the individual occasionally welding sheet metal, success can be as simple as learning the proper techniques.

Process Selection

When welding thin metal, the main objective is to avoid warping, burn-through and excessive heat affected zones while still ensuring the weld has sufficient mechanical strength for the application. The welding processes that provide the most control over heat are short circuit transfer GMAW ("short arc"), pulsed GMAW, GTAW and pulsed GTAW.

Process-Specific Advice

GMAW Electrode and Shielding Gas Selection
Use the smallest wire diameter feasible. A smaller wire takes less heat to melt, which in turn heats the metal less. A smaller wire also gives you more control over the weld bead and a better chance of recovering from mistakes because it has a lower deposition rate. That's why professional groups like I-CAR, the Inter-industry Conference on Auto Repair, recommend using .023 in. diameter wire for most collision repair work. For welding material 18 ga. and thicker, you may be able to use a .030 in. wire for higher deposition rates.

For welding mild steel, choose an AWS E70 wire in S-2, S-3 or S-6 classification. For shielding a shielding gas, always use a high argon-based gas, such as 75 percent argon/25 percent CO2 gas (commonly called 75/25 or C25). Argon carries less heat than pure CO2, and you'll get less spatter.

The two most popular wires for aluminum are ER4043 and ER5356. While the latter feeds more easily, choose ER4043 in .030 in. diameter to solve heat-related problems. ER4043 melts at a lower temperature and uses slower wire feed speed, often making it the superior choice in sheet metal applications. Always use 100 percent argon shielding gas.

For welding 304 stainless steel, ER308, ER308L and ER308LSI wires are compatible. For welding 316L stainless, you need a 316L wire. Use a "tri-mix" shielding gas consisting of 90 percent helium/8 percent argon/2 percent CO2. Note: Do not attempt to weld thin metal with flux cored wires. These wires use more heat because they require globular transfer. Unlike short arc, where the weld puddle cools every time the wire touches the base metal, the arc remains "on" constantly with globular transfer.

Robo-Welder Film:

Movie description:

W.I.S.O.R. stands for Welding and Inspection Steam Operations Robot. It was invented in 1999 by a team of scientists from Honeybee Robotics who were contracted by Con Edison to build it. W.I.S.O.R.'s purpose is to navigate the vast network of steam pipes underneath New York City, identify minor cracks in the pipes, and weld them back together. This educational documentary gives a history of New York City's development, explaining how the steam pipes were built, what they do, the problems that developed as they began to age and deteriorate, and why W.I.S.O.R. is needed. Using voice over narration while rolling archival footage of men digging trenches for pipes in the late 1800s, or while showing footage of the cleanup from a steam pipe break in 1999 that shot 300-degree water tainted with cancer-causing asbestos 15 stories into the air; the film pulls together pieces of the past and present in New York City steam pipe history. To cut costs from repairs, maintain the massive amount of energy-production that the pipes generate for the city, and for many more reasons, the film shows how the invention of W.I.S.O.R.--a robot that consists of two canisters moving like an inchworm through the pipes, manned by a human interface from a nearby truck--is a major step forward in engineering and technology.
